Roadmap
Last Updated
What I’m working on, roughly in order. It’s a plan rather than a promise: I make Kana Override on my own, so things move when they’re ready, and the order can change as I hear from testers.
Now
Being built or tested
Alpha Testing
Testers are using the app on their Android phones through Google Play, and telling me what’s confusing and what breaks.
- Japanese
Sentences
Sentence sets that build on the words you already know, like Job Sentences, with more to follow.
- Korean
Korean Early Access
Hangul letters, numbers and greetings are in the app, marked as early access while I improve them with feedback from testers.
- Dutch
Dutch Learning Path
Greetings, numbers, jobs and everyday words are in the app. Now I’m working out the best order to learn them in, so each set builds on the one before.
Next
Planned once testing settles
A Public Release
Kana Override on Google Play for anyone with an Android phone, with no invitation needed.
Progress Screen
Your personal bests in one place, a clearer view of which characters you know and which are tricky, and a way to reset your progress.
- Japanese
Combination Kana
Characters like きゃ and シュ, which are two kana read as one sound.
- Japanese
Times, Dates and Counters
Sentence sets for saying when, and for counting things, which use different words from plain numbers.
- CantoneseGreek
More Words
Larger vocabulary sets for the languages that have the least so far.
Later
Ideas, with no order yet
More Languages
I’d like to add more, with each one starting from letters and numbers and growing from there.
- Spanish
Spanish
A new language for the app, starting with greetings, numbers and everyday words, with each set building on the one before.
Downloadable Language Packs
New languages, new sets and fixes to existing ones downloaded straight into the app when they’re ready, without waiting for a full update from Google Play.
Active Hours
Choosing when the quiz can appear, so it stays out of the way at certain times of the day.
Smarter Revision
Using how long it’s been since you last saw a character, as well as how often you get it right, to choose what to ask next.
Something Missing?
Tell me what you’d like Kana Override to do. Ideas from testers help me decide what to build next.
